The Naomh Colmcille senior team got another league win at Pairc Comcille on Saturday evening.  NAOMH COLMCILLE GAA

The teams took to the field with the threat of thunder and lightning looming overhead. Thankfully both the audio and visual effects kept some distance away from the pitch for the duration of the match.

Matthew Crossan raised the white flag for the hosts with their first attack of the game in the opening minute.

Carndonagh had a chance to equalise soon after but the effort from a free went wide. Matthew Crossan then had a goalbound effort well saved.

Joe Donaghey doubled Naomh Colmcille’s advantage from a free following a foul on Willie Gillespie, before Gillespie himself had the home crowd cheering a goal in the 18th minute of the half.

Willie Gillespie and Paul Friel were then involved in setting up Don Hegarty for a point, and Ryan McKinley extended the home side’s lead even further with a point from a Mark Dowds 45m kick towards the end of the half.

Carndonagh finally registered their first scores of the match in first half stoppage time to leave the score at the short whistle Naomh Colmcille 1-4 0-2 Carndonagh.

The early stages of the second half were affected by a lengthy stoppage for an injury to one of the Carndonagh players, resulting in over 6 minutes of additional time at the end of the half.

The visitors got the opening score of the half, before Daniel Clarke provided the pass for Joe Donaghey to get his second score of the match.

A point for Carndonagh was cancelled soon after by arguably the score of the match, when Ryan McErlean powered his way through the Carndonagh defence for a fantastic individual score.

Ryan McKinley saw an effort at a point go wide off the post, before three Carndonagh points towards the end of regulation time reduced the Naomh Colmcille advantage to just 2 points.

However a 45m kick from Mark Dowds and a point from Matthew Crossan, both in stoppage time, ensured victory for Naomh Colmcille

Unfortunately one of the Carndonagh players suffered a serious injury during the second half of the match.

Naomh Colmcille would like to wish him a speedy recovery from the injury.

Final score Naomh Colmcille 1-8 0-7 Carndonagh.

Naomh Colmcille: Marty Callaghan, Mark Callaghan, Alex Devenney , Eddie Gillespie, Paul Friel, Shane McAteer, John Fullerton, Ciaran Devine (Daniel Clarke), Ryan McKinley (0-1), Don Hegarty (0-1), Ryan McErlean (c) (0-1), Mark Dowds (0-1 (1 45m), Joe Donaghey (0-2 (1f)), Matthew Crossan (0-2), Willie Gillespie (1-0).
