GET ON YOUR BIKE FOR THE GREAT SLIGO TO LETTERKENNY CYCLE EVENT THIS SUNDAY!

Why not get on your bike for the Sligo to Letterkenny charity cycle this Sunday?

Why not get on your bike for the Sligo to Letterkenny charity cycle this Sunday?

The untimely death of the late Michael Toner was the catalyst which set in motion the Sligo to Letterkenny Cycle Event which has raised more than a staggering €500,000 for charity to date.

Over the past twenty two years, hundreds of cyclists have willingly endured the 111 kilometre challenge and have raised a significant amount of money for Cancer Research.

The number of those who have become regular participants is testimony to the success of this event which takes place again on Sunday next, July 13th.

This year the cycle will be without one of its loyal members, Phonsie Surpless, who recently passed away. Phonsie took great pride in being one of its oldest participants.

An event of such magnitude could not happen without the loyalty and generosity of a number of contributors, the hard work of a large group of volunteers who turn out year after year and endure all kinds of weather to provide support to the cyclists and to ensure that the event runs safely and smoothly and the media who willingly publicise the event.

This year, the emphasis is on a ‘Fun Cycle’; it is hoped that this will encourage many more to ‘get on their bikes’ and raise money for this very worthy cause.

Motorists are asked to be considerate, to give plenty of room to the cyclists and to take into consideration that many of them may be suffering from fatigue after having travelled such a long distance. A hoot of support on the horn from motorists and a cheer along the route from spectators will be greatly appreciated.

Early registration is available in Clarke’s Newsagent on Thursday 10th July from 7 to 9 pm. Those requiring further details should get in touch with Paddy Delap on 0863859696.
