IT’S already 20C across Donegal – and it’s going to get even warmer on what could be the hottest day of the year today.

Forecasters say temperatures could reach 28C this afternoon.

The glorious weather is pulling in a huge increase in visitors from across Ireland.

And they’re joining an increasing number of foreign tourists who have chosen to come to Donegal this year.

Glenveagh National Park – our most visited attraction – has been packed again this week with visitors from throughout Europe, north America, China and Japan.

Hotels, B&Bs and restaurants are reporting trade increases of up to 20% on this time last year.

“This spell of wonderful weather doesn’t bring in extra tourists from abroad but it does make their visit much more pleasant. Generally however they don’t come to Ireland for the weather,” said a Failte Ireland spokeswoman.

“However it does increase staycations and Donegal is seeing the benefits of that.”

From trips on the Donegal Bay Waterbus to simply watching dolphins splashing in the warm waters off Malin Head, more and more people are choosing the county to visit – boosting our fastest growing industry.

It’s not just tourists who want to come to Donegal.

One of the world’s leading car manufacturers is in the county filming a new TV advert.

Toyota are currently filming an advert for their new Harrier Hybrid and are on location in north Donegal, filming along the Knockalla Coast Road on the Wild Atlantic Way.

Enjoy today however; temperatures will return to 20C or 21C this weekend, with rain overnight and into Saturday.
