GOLF NEWS: CHARLOTTE CALDWELL WINS THE LADIES COMPETITION AT MURVAGH

Ladies’ Competitions

Sponsor: Hanna Hats 27th & 29th July -18 holes Stableford

This low scoring competition, sponsored by Hanna hats was won on a break of tie by Charlotte Caldwell with 35pts.

Mary Daly, was runner up once more, with 35pts. Mary Gillen, winner of Lady Captains prize, was 3rd with 34pts, and Bernie Finn 4th also with 34pts.

The White Hotel Group were the sponsors of the competition played over the holiday weekend and Larry Walsh was just ahead of some of the younger members of the club with Gavin Bennett coming 2nd and Tom Geraghty 3rd. Padraig Farragher took 4th place while Enda Campbell was the Gross winner. The Sunday and Monday prizes went to Raymond Nolan and Bobby Beare.

Thursday Specials

 

 

 

This week’s competition was played for the Chairman’s prize, the course was in exceptional condition and we had an excellent turn out with 54 players teeing up to compete for the prize.

 

 

 

This winner, a man who has been showing some excellent form of late, Matt Shovlin, who returned a very impressive score of 34pts to claim Chairman Aiden Cassidy’s Prize. 2nd place went to another man in form Charlie McGinty with 33pts, Liam Cassidy was 3rd with 32pts on a break of tie from Frank O’Donnell who also had a 32 pts.

 

 

 

Brian Neilan won the prize for the 1st 9 with 20 pts, Matt Gallagher’s tee shot finished nearest the pin on the 5th and Raymond Nolan had the longest drive on the 11th.

 

 

 

Gerry Forde was the best of the past players with a very impressive 36pts and Brian Boyle had the best score of committee members past and present with 32pts.

 

 

 

Players are reminded that the 3rd Round of the Phoenix cup must be played by the 6th August.

 

 

 

This Year’s weekend away will be held on the 11th\12th October at Slieve Russell Golf Club. Sheet is on the notice board please add you name if you are interested in travelling, the first 30 players with their name on the sheet and the €50 deposit paid will travel.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Club Competitions

 

 

 

The 3 ball scramble in aid of The Lifeboat Service was played for last Friday 1st of August. Jackie Irwin explained how the money collected for the Lifeboat Service is used.

The winners on a break of tie were Rena Brogan, Bobby O’Shea and David Barr. Runners up were Claire, Marcus and Killian Paasch. Maureen & David Child and Jim Nixon were in 3rd position.

Club Mixed Foursomes continues on Friday 8th with draw from 5.30 to 6.
