Mark McHugh will return from New York next week, prompting speculation that the Kilcar man may return to the Donegal senior panel ahead of the clash with Dublin.

Mark McHugh will come back from New York earlier than expected after it was disclosed that the Kilcar man will return to Ireland next week.

His early return has prompted speculation that he may re-join the Donegal senior panel ahead of their All-Ireland semi-final clash with Dublin on August 31st.

McHugh left the panel in April saying he needed a break from the game and indicated he intended on heading to the States for the summer.

The 2012 All-Star then left for New York in June, to play for Donegal New York.

However it’s been a disastrous season for the Donegal New York side and they’ve won just one fixture all season.

With the club championship postponed until Donegal’s involvement in the All-Ireland series ends, it has sparked rumours online that McHugh may return to the Donegal senior panel.

In his column in the Irish Independent Eugene McGee said, “Even though there are clear signs of wear and tear among four or five Donegal stars, they will be hard to beat.

“They need a shot in the arm to rejuvenate them now – could the return of Mark McHugh from New York be a possibility?

McHugh was a hugely influential player for Donegal over the last number of years and his exit from the panel was seen a massive blow in April.

His younger brother Ryan has deputized well in his absence, but it would be a great boost to Donegal supporters if McHugh was to return ahead of the titanic tussle with Dublin.

For now he’ll return to action with his club side Kilcar as they attempt to continue their fine season and make an impact on this year’s Donegal SFC.
