SOCCER NEWS: DELIGHT FOR BUSTER AS LAGAN EARN WIN OVER LOCAL RIVALS DRUMOGHILL

Our mens team got their season of to a great start with a 3-2 derby win over Dromoghill FC. Kevin Kelly and Stephen O’Donnell(2) were the scorers in a well contested game.

Our u/18 girls had a great week, beating our senior team 7-3 on Tuesday with Ava Duncan(2), Amy Boyd(2), Erin Coll, Amanda Callaghan and Zoe Green scoring. Nakita Burke scored three for the seniors.

On Thursday they beat Bonagee Utd 4-1 in the Glencar Inn cup with Amy Boyd, Zoe Green, Caoimhe Walsh and Aine Deasley scoring.

Their good form is reflected in that Zoe Green, Ciana Brogan and Caoimhe Walsh have been called for trials with Ireland u/16’s.

Our senior ladies lost on penalties to Fanad Utd in the Glencar Inn cup after a 2-2 draw. Lauren Harper scored both goals.

This Sunday the ladies play Ballyfermot ladies in the semi-final of the WFAI Junior cup. Kick off is at 2.00pm in Orchard Pk. Our u/12 and u/9 girls were also in action.

Our u/12’s lost 1-0 to Kilmacrennan and 2-1 to Finn Valley before beatin Illistrin 3-2.

Scorers were Lauren Gallagher, Shannon Cunningham and Rihanna Devenney. Our u/9’s won their three games.

They beat Glenree 3-2, Finn Valley 5-0 and Illistrin 3-1. Scorers were Erin Doherty (5), Orla Doherty(4), Amy Doherty and Zara Gibson.

Our u/14 girls lost 5-0 to Greencastle in the Ulster u/14 cup. In our weekly lotto the numbers drawn were 6,10,15 and 19. Five had two numbers with Ned Gibson drawn out and winning E50.

The club wishes a speedy recovery to John O’Donnell and Margaret Gibson who have been hospitalised recently.

The club als0 extends sympathy to the Sharkey and Gallagher family circles on their recent bereavements.
