St Catherines 6 Lifford Celtic 0
The Saints took the lead after twenty four minutes when the ball came to David Conwell and he hit an unstoppable shot that went straight into the top corner of the Lifford net. The Saints then went 2-0 up when Evan Broderick crossed to Brendan Mc Guire who took the ball on his chest and turned and on the half volley to score. Lifford had a couple of long shots but they came to nothing. On fifty three minutes David Conwell slotted the ball into the Lifford net to make the score 3-0. Lifford then had a couple of chances but they came to nothing as the Saints defence stayed strong. On fifty seven minutes the Saints went four up when the ball came to David Conwell and from a tight angle he put the ball into the Lifford net, then just two minutes later on fifty nine minutes it was that man again Conwell who scored when he lobbed the Lifford keeper inside the box to make the score 5-0 to the Saints. With time nearly up Stephen Gildea rounded off the scoring when he slotted the ball into the Lifford net to make it 6-0. Best for St. Catherines were: David Conwell and Shane O’ Rourke, team effort from Lifford.
Gweedore Celtic 1 Milford United 1
The home team will feel happier with a share of the points from this opening league game. Milford dominated the first half but despite all the pressure Gweedore managed to keep their goal intact with Michael Mc Kelvey having an outstanding game. The hosts took the lead five minutes into the second half. Declan Doherty’s shot took a deflection and the keeper was left flat footed as the ball ended up in the back of the net. It took seventy minutes before the visitors managed to equalise. A ball into the box was headed down and Joey Cullen applied the finish. Milford piled on the pressure but again Michael Mc Kelvey and the home defence stood firm. For Gweedore a man of the match performance by Michael Mc Kelvey. A team performance by Milford. Referee: Mick Lagan
Drumoghill 2 Kildrum Tigers 0
Richie Moore’s double strike was enough to clinch a memorable win for Drumoghill on their big day with the opening of their new pitch. Moore struck once in each half to deservedly clinch the points for Drumoghill on their return to the Premier Division against a Kildrum side who were also returning to the Donegal League Premier Division after a spell in the Ulster Senior League. The conditions were ideal and the new surface ensured that conditions were perfect for football. It made for an exciting clash and neither side disappointed with both teams playing well on the day. It was a day though that defences were on top and despite both teams playing neat and attractive football, they found chances difficult to come by. The first goal was always going to be crucial and it arrived on 37 minutes. Liam O’Donnell and Pajo Rafferty combined well down the right side for Drumoghill and Richie Moore’s looping header from Rafferty’s cross found the net from 12 yards. Drumoghill began to dominate proceedings and through quick movement and intelligent passing created chances in the early stages of the 2nd half but they found Brett Mc Ginty a difficult obstacle with some brilliant last ditch defending that kept his side in the game. Drumoghill looked like they might regret those missed openings when Kildrum almost scored when Damian Crossan’s effort was well saved by McCauley. The game was finally ended as a contest in the 90th minute when Richard Tinney and Liam O’Donnell combined to set up Moore to drive home and seal the points. On this evidence both teams can look forward to strong campaigns in what will be a competitive Premier Division. Referee: Vincent McLaughlin
Cappry Rovers 2 Glenea United 0
Cappry Rovers made a successful return to the premier division of the Donegal League with a convincing 2-0 win over Glenea United in Cappry Park. Cappry fielding a relatively youthful team took the game to the visitors and created a number of chances before they made the breakthrough in the twenty second minute when Dylan Ramsey received the ball and his shot from twenty yards beat the Glenea keeper to hit the top corner of the net. Cappry kept the pressure on and created numerous chances but were unable to score as the visitors defence and goalkeeper held out. Glenea had a few chances but couldn’t score. The second half started with Glenea pressing for an equaliser. They had a shot which went past the post and another just over the crossbar. Dylan Ramsey secured the points for Cappry in the seventy third minute with his second goal when he shot to the corner of the net following a cross from Brendan Mc Laughlin. Best for Cappry were: Dylan Ramsey and Gavin Reilly. David Ward was best for Glenea United. Referee: Liam Farren.
Watson Hire Division One
Kilmacrennan Celtic 1 Castlefin Celtic 2
After trailing for most of the second half Castlefin Celtic turned this game on it’s head with two goals in the last two minutes. A scoreless first half meant it was all to play for in the second. Aidan Friel opened the scoring on fifty five minutes and Kilmacrennan were good value for their lead. Despite falling behind Castlefin battled away and were awarded a penalty on eighty eight minutes. Ronan Tourish converted the spot kick and a minute later Ian Ward scored the winning goal much to the Kilmacrennan sides disappointment as they had played well throughout. For their part Castlefin will be happy with an opening day victory.
Gweedore United 2 Curragh Athletic 1
This game played in glorious conditions at Carrickboyle saw the home side take the 3 points in an entertaining encounter. Curragh got off to a bright start with Calvin Bradley and Colm Melaugh going close in the opening minutes. United had their own chances through Francis Gallagher and Ciaran Mc Fadden early on however O’Brien in the visitor’s nets did well on each occasion. On the half hour mark Dan O’Brien and Neil Lloyd went close but United cleared their lines. Ciaran Mc Fadden opened the scoring in the 32nd minute after good play by Frank Mc Gee. In the second half the home side tightened things up and Mc Fadden and Francis Gallagher had good chances to extend the lead but couldn’t convert. In the 72nd minute Neil Lloyd made it 1-1 when he broke the off side trap and lobbed the outrushing keeper. Both sides continued to have chances however it was Odhran Molloy who netted the winner for United in the 87th minute when he neatly slotted the ball past O’Brien. Neil Lloyd and Justin Mc Bride played well for Curragh with Ciaran Mc Fadden and Frank Mc Gee excelling for United. Referee: Victor Rainey
Keadue Rovers 2 Whitestrand United 0
Keadue opened up their league campaign with a good win at home to Whitestrand on Sunday at Central Park. Whitestrand had the slightly brighter opening and had the first chance on three minutes with a deflected effort. They remained the brighter team in the opening ten minutes but Keadue soon got a chance and on twelve minutes they took the lead when good work down the right wing from Ryan Rodgers and Donal Rodgers lead to a ball played through to Sean Yank Boyle and he made no mistake. Keadue’s Conor Greene could’ve made it two on thirty four minutes but his far post header was brilliantly saved by goalkeeper Paddy Kelly. The second half started with Keadue on top. Whitestrand however looked dangerous at times. Keadue went two up on sixty five minutes when sub Sean Bonners’ good work led to Sean Sharkey running through and hitting the post while the follow up was slotted home from Sean Yank Boyle. For the last twenty minutes of the game Keadue were well in control. Best for Whitestrand were Paddy Kelly, Paul Lynch and Ryan Mc Cleary while best for Keadue were Sean Yank Boyle, Ryan Rodgers and Conor Greene.
Lagan Harps 2 Copany Rovers 1
A well contested opening half ended scoreless despite both sides creating chances. Copany got the opener on forty nine minutes as after great cross from the flank by Marty McGrath was headed home by Lee Doherty at the back post. Lagan pressed hard and were rewarded on fifty five minutes when a free was well worked by Kevin Kelly and Stephen O’Donnell with latter crossing for Eunan Diver to slam home the equaliser from ten yards. On sixty minutes a long throw into the Copany box caused all sorts of chaos and the ball broke to Austin Marron who was upended and a penalty awarded to Lagan. The penalty was taken by Stephen O’ Donnell but the Copany keeper got down well to his left and made a great save. Copany were dropping deeper and deeper and a cross from Kevin Kelly was cleared to the edge of the box before Glenn Gallagher’s shot was again well saved by the keeper. Lagan got their second goal on seventy five minutes with a well worked goal started by Ronan Sweeney who played Austin Marron down the right, his strong run and cross was headed powerfully to the net by Stephen O’Donnell making amends for his penalty miss. Best for Lagan Ronan Sweeney & Gerard Hilly. Best for Copany Stephen Doherty & Callum Gallagher. Referee: Martin Mc Anenny
Kerrykeel ’71 FC 6 Dunkineely Celtic 2
Kerrykeel had the perfect start when Mark Friel met a brilliant Patrick Mc Conigley cross and fired home from 12 yards in the second minute. Dunkineely drew level on eighteen minutes when Paul Murrin scored with an excellent 25 yard strike that gave Brendan Friel no chance. As half time approached Kerrykeel scored two quick-fire goals on forty and forty four minutes, the first a brilliant strike from Mark Friel and the second a great individual effort from Barney Mc Bride. Mark Friel completed his hat-trick when a defensive error allowed him to fire home from six yards. Colm Mc Gonigle got the goal his performance deserved on sixty five minutes when he found space in the middle and observed the Dunkineely keeper of his line and fired the ball over his head much to the delight of the local support. Andrew Mackie got a consolation goal on eighty minutes when he broke the off-side trap. Mark Friel rounded off the scoring on ninety minutes. Best for the ’71 were Seimie Friel, Paul Friel, Mark Friel and Barney Mc Bride. Team performance from Dunkineely. Referee: Brian O’ Kane
CT Ball Division Two
Bonagee United 2 Deele Harps 0
Aiden Mc Laughlin for the home side headed over from ten yards on six minutes after a good cross in from the right from Darren Ashmore. Tiernan Mc Mullan came close for the visitors on ten minutes only to see his shot from the edge of the box just go over the bar and two minutes later he shot wide from ten yards after a good through ball from Jamie Gallagher. Bonagee took the lead on forty minutes when Darren Ashmore headed home from a Kevin Doran corner. Both keepers were in fine form and Curran made two good save from an Aiden Mc Laughlin header and Darren Ashmore shot. Carr in the home goal was the busier keeper and pulled of three good saves in the space of five minutes from Breslin twice and Gerry Crawford. Bonagee got their second on eighty five minutes when Garry Patton broke down the right and his cross into the box struck the defender on the arm and the referee pointed to the spot. Darren Ashmore made no mistake from the spot to give the home team a very hard earned three points.
Raphoe Town 2 Letterbarrow Celtic 0
Raphoe Town welcomed Letterbarrow Celtic to the Deele College grounds on a fine day for the opening game of the new season . Letterbarrow started the better and where first to every ball in the first ten minutes of the game without really testing Paul Carberry in the Raphoe goal. Raphoe started to take control after this with Christy Bogle and Paddy Gallagher causing all sorts of bother from the wing. Raphoe opened the scoring when a fine through ball from Stephen Laird put Christy Bogle in and he rounded the keeper and stroked the ball home. Raphoe could have added to this but for some wayward shooting and fine goalkeeping. Raphoe controlled the second half but Letterbarrow were dangerous from set pieces and Paul Carberry made a fantastic save from a flick on from a throw in. Raphoe put the game to bed in the 80th minute when Keelin Gillen finished well after great work by Dean Mc Connell. Team performance by Letterbarrow who pushed Raphoe all the way. Best for Raphoe were Christy Bogle and the outstanding Tom Mc Hugh. Referee: Michael Mulhern
Glenree United 2 Ballybofey United 2
Glenree started well but couldn’t score. In the 20th minute Ballybofey won a corner kick which Mark Marley rose highest to power past the keeper. This gave the Ballybofey squad a lift and they started to get a foothold in the game but not creating any real clear cut chances from close range. To the home side’s credit they dug in and started to get back on top. Barney Boyce fired them back on level terms in the 38th minute. In the second half both sides started strong with Ballybofey making a tactical change on the wing and it was coming down to a midfield battle between both teams. The home side got behind the away defence quiet a few times but the final ball was letting them down. On 67minutes a lovely lofted pass was hit towards Marty Mc Laughlin who calmly jinxed past two players and slotted past the keeper. The game opened up after this as the away side pushed for the equaliser. In the 83rd minute Ballybofey came good after a quick throw in wasn’t dealt with and the winger fired in a good pass to Ryan Kelly who wasn’t going to miss from 2yards out. The match ended in a draw and on reflection a fair result after both teams put in a good battling performance on the opening game of the season. Referee: Joe Mc Hugh
Convoy Arsenal 5 Eany Celtic 0
From the first whistle Convoy started strongly and settled really well into the game. The Eany defence was breached on a number of occasions before Convoy broke the deadlock, with Conor Cairns getting the final touch on a corner in the 10th minute. Convoy continued to play some great football with Eany struggling to get a foothold in the game. Convoy’s pressure told in the 25th minute when Mickey Melaugh drilled the ball into the bottom corner. Convoy made plenty of more chances but just couldn’t put the ball away. It took until injury time at the end of the first half for the third goal to come and it was a Gary Brolly header that did it. There was no let up after the break as Convoy pilled more misery onto Eany with Mark Mailey getting their fourth in the 51st minute. The fifth came five minutes later when Darren Harvey slotted home to complete a well worked move. The tempo dropped a little in the last half an hour with Convoy unable to add to their tally and Eany not really creating any clear cut chances. Refere

Cranford looked stronger at the back in the second half and made it two with Paddy Doohan nodding the ball down to Ryan McDaid who scored. Mulroy had a chance to level on 15 minutes but a free kick from the edge of the box was parried away by Nigel Hegarty in the Tullyvinney goal. Friel was also doing well in the Mulroy goals. Mulroy equalised against the run of play when, from a corner, Tullyvinney forward Renato headed the ball into the top corner of his own goal to give the Fanad men a lifeline. Tullyvinney got their second of the game and went back in front when Cromie weaved his way through a barrage of Mulroy defenders and cooly smashed the ball into the bottom corner of the net with a superb individual effort.
