Hundreds of farmers were outstanding in their own field in Donegal today as they broke a massive world record.

A total of 800 farmers on Ferguson tractors crammed into lands on the An Grianan Estate in Burt to well and truly beat the Guinness World record.

The previous world record stood at 386 and was set in New South Wales in Australia.

Thousands of people from across the country and as far away as America came to witness the record being smashed.

The official record was the number of tractors cultivating the ground at the same time.

Farmer Alan Robb, who organised the massive event, said he was overwhelmed by the response.

“I knew there would be a strong reaction but to see all the tractors working in the field at the same time is just incredible.

“I never thought we would have this many tractors though. There are tractors here from across Ireland as well as Scotland and England and even Holland.

“It’s just an amazing scene to see all these great machines working together,” he said.

A video of all the tractors working together in the field has been filmed and will be sent to the Guinness World Book or Records for verifications.

All proceeds from yesterday’s event went to the Sean O’Hare Unit in Stranorlar.

Two other world records for the most number of Massey Ferguson 135s in the same field and also the most number of tractors making up the Massey Ferguson sign were also broken today.

The event continues tomorrow.
