WEEK OF EVENTS PLANNED TO REMEMBER TRAGIC JIMMY GUICHARD

A five day line-up of events will take place this October from the 1st to the 5th in memory of the late Letterkenny man Jimmy Guichard.

The 20-year-old former St. Eunan’s hurler was found unconscious in his fathers Gravesend home in England following a heart attack in October last after taking legal highs.

His family mounted a media campaign in a bid to make people aware of the dangers of legal highs.

A stream of events will take place this October beginning with a night of glitz and glamour at a fashion show at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Letterkenny.

Many local businesses have contributed to the event and will be present on the evening including Cllr Michael McBride will launch the awareness week on the night.

The following day an information evening at which there will be various stands and organisations present.

On October 3rd ‘Jimmy’s Day’ a conference is to be held in Derry to launch a cross boarder action group.

“UCAD” this groups will focus on Education Service and Intervention,this group will also be putting together a directory of service providers that can be contacted on a 24/7 basis, there will then be a billboard and poster campaign launch at the Free Derry Wall to honour Jimmy and others like him who have fallen foul of these products

Then the bar trade in Letterkenny will join in a ‘zero tolerance zone’ which will be launched at the Market Square, Letterkenny at 4pm this is in partnership with An Garda Síochána

The closing event of the week is a cross boarder Tug O War gyms from Donegal will take on the gyms from Derry in a show of strength in the Radisson hotel from 2-5 pm.
