Beautiful Joshua Coyle was playing at his home at Crieve Glebe near Bomany when he was struck by a van at around 6.45pm.

The 22 month old toddler was rushed to Letterkenny general Hospital but was pronounced dad a short time later.

Little Joshua was the son of Alex Coyle and Susanna Mangan.

The couple and their other children are being comforted at their home.

A full investigation into the incident is being carried out by a Garda Forensic Team who were at the house this morning.

Local county councillor Gerry McMonagle said the tragedy has numbed the local community.

“Any loss of life in such circumstances in tragic but when it happens to a young child it is even more painful.

“As a grandfather myself I was shocked when I heard this news and my heart goes out to the parents and relatives of this little boy,” he said.

A post mortem will take place on little Joshua today and his remains are due to be taken back to his parent’s home to be waked.
