NAOMH COLMCILLE GAANaomh Colmcille GAA Notes

The senior and reserve teams both lost at St. Nauls in the Intermediate Championship. However the U16s had a terrific win over Carndonagh to progress to the Northern Board Division 2 final.

The seniors travelled to St Nauls for their first match of the Intermediate championship. However despite the scores being level early on, things didn’t go as the visitors hoped after that and the hosts emerged winners on a final scoreline of St. Nauls 0-16 0-7 Naomh Colmcille.

The reserve team found themselves behind early on against the St Nauls but reduced the deficit by half time. A much improved second hald was not enough to overcome the deficit and the hosts won on a full time score of St. Nauls 1-15 2-8 Naomh Colmcille.

Naomh Colmcille U16s advanced to the final of the Northern Board Division 2 Championship after a victory over Carndonagh at Pairc Colmcille on Friday evening.

The home side got off to a great start with a point from Stephen Gallagher in the opening minute. Carndonagh responded quickly though and hit three points without reply. Stephen Gallagher got his second point to reduce the deficit before the visitors made it a two point game in the 9th minute. A determined run by Brendan O’Donnell resulted in a goal for Naomh Colmcille soon afterwards to put the home side in front again. They extended the lead to three points (1-4 to 0-4) with a fisted point from Stephen Gallagher and a free from David McNamee. A pointed free for the visitors reduced the deficit, but a point from PJ McBrearty and a long range effort from Peter Scott that found it’s way to the net gave Naomh Colmcille a six point advantage as half time approached. Four points for Carndonagh in the last 6 minutes of the half meant that the home side had a lead of 2-5 to 0-9 at the short whistle.

Brendan O’Donnell took a pass from PJ McBrearty to score the opening point of the second half and Louis Cole scored in the 8th minute. These were cancelled out by two points for Carndonagh. Brendan O’Donnell gathered a long free from Stephen Gallagher to make it a three point game. Carndonagh got the next score from a free, but the final four points of the match came the way of the home team. Louis Cole pointed in the 18th minute of the half, David McNamee scored from a free, and another following good play involving Louis Cole and PJ McBrearty, with PJ McBrearty completing the scoring on a highly satisfactory evening for the home side. Full time score Naomh Colmcille Naomh Colmcille 2-12 0-12 Carndonagh.
