TY (140)LYIT will host a Fire Safety Engineering Showcase this Friday 28th of November from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm (free admission).

The Showcase aims to highlight what the discipline is about and the range of careers that it can lead to.

LYIT Fire Safety Engineering graduates and associated professionals will talk about their career paths and the work that they do.

The day will also provide an opportunity for anyone interested in the discipline to find out about the Fire Safety Engineering courses offered and view the facilities, including the Fire Laboratory at LYIT (the only one in the Republic).

It is a bringing together of all those closely involved in fire safety – students, researchers, lecturers, graduates, suppliers and employers.

Anne Boner, Head of Department of Civil Engineering and Construction, extends an open invitation to anyone who wants to find out more about a career in Fire Safety Engineering, and encourages school leavers to consider it.

She told Donegal Daily, “Fire Safety Engineering is an engineering discipline with many opportunities as it is a requirement by law for all buildings to meet the relevant Fire Safety standards and also, there aren’t many careers where your actions can result in saving lives but Fire Safety is one of them.

“At the showcase, you will hear from professionals in the sector who share their experiences and talk about the many paths you can take.

“It’s the perfect chance to learn about this unique career opportunity that is only available in Donegal.

LYIT has been running an Honours Fire Safety Engineering degree since 2001 and is the only third level institute in the country to do so.

Fire Safety Engineering graduates have been successful in finding rewarding careers in the discipline, both in Ireland and abroad with some being employed directly to work in such far flung places as New Zealand or The Middle East.

LYIT Fire Safety Engineering Showcase 2014 runs in Room 1101 on Friday 28th of November from 9.30 am to 3.30 pm at LYIT.
