Liam McShea: Made generous offer

SUPERVALU supermarkets across Donegal have come to the rescue in a Christmas toy appeal for needy families in the county.

Yesterday the Donegal County Childcare Committee revealed how it was struggling to cope with the large volume of requests for its Presents for Percy Appeal.

The appeal, which has been going since, 2011, sources presents for needy families across Donegal whom Santa may not be able to visit.

However, manager of DCCC Avril McMonagle, told Donegal Daily that they had been forced to turn away some families because the demand for the appeal was so high.

Avril wrote a personal heartfelt appeal to businesses across Donegal to help them come to the aid of less well-off families so that Santa would turn up to ALL families on Christmas morning.

After reading the appeal on Donegal Daily, one man decided he would like to act on Avril’s letter.

Liam McShea, manager of Kavanagh’s SuperValu in Dungloe has now offered to collect toys at his store for the DCCC to pass on to needy families.

Big-hearted Liam is also contacting other SuperValu outlets across Donegal to see if they will back the campaign.

We will keep you posted on this wonderful gesture by Liam.

It’s good to know that the real spirit of Christmas is still alive in Donegal.

“I am the manager here in Kavanagh’s SuperValu Dungloe, just read your article regarding the DCCC and I am sickened by the thought of those poor kids and families in Donegal who may miss out on the spirit of Christmas. We would be delighted to help out with a campaign similar to the SVDP one we have done the last 4 years where our customers dropped off gifts for the needy in our locality. If you could let the DCCC know of our idea and they can contact us here in Dungloe and I am sure our other stores in our group will also help out in Buncrana, Donegal town and Ballybofey. Between our 4 stores last we collected 100s of toys.”
