Forecasters are predicting that there could be snow up to 3cm in some places as winter gets ready to bite.
The county has been battered by storms over the last number of days, which had left many homes across the county without electricity and power.
Debris from the storms had left some roads unpassable until they had been cleared by council workers and motorists were advised not to undertake any unnecessary journeys.
It was hoped that the weather would become milder, but it now looks certain Donegal will be hit by a combination of Snow and Ice.
A Met Eireann forecaster said, “Wintry showers will spread East tonight, and are likely to give a covering of snow of up to 3cm in places.
“Icy patches will form in any locations escaping snow showers.
Further snow showers and similar accumulations will occur on Tuesday night.
Gardaí are advising motorists to drive with extreme caution.
It is now expected that council officials will now grit all major roads in preparation for the adverse weather that is on its way.
