CRIME ALERT: A number of people in Donegal have been the victim of a fraudulent online Tax Refund scheme.
Michael Coll, owner of The Tax Clinic has contacted Donegal Daily to circulate the information to readers about the on-going scam that has already caught out a number of people.
People have received e-mails linking them to a bogus website which looks like a legitimate Revenue website.
The scam artists then instruct people to submit their personal details in order to claim back the tax.
Michael Coll told Donegal Daily,”We have been contacted by a large number of people this morning who are receiving emails telling them that they are due a Tax Refund.
“They are asked to click on a link that directs them to a website that looks like the official Revenue.ie site.
“They are then asked to input Debit/Credit Card details including pin numbers and also personal information such as Dates of Birth and current address.
“Revenue never contact individuals via email or ask for personal information like this and the emails are a complete scam.
I would advise your readers to simple delete the emails and ensure their anti – virus software is up to date.
