THE death has been announced of Donegal GAA great Donal Monaghan.
Donal was the corner back in the Donegal side which landed the Ulster title in both 1972 and 1974.
He was Man of the Match in the 1974 final replay win over Down and was given an All-Star, travelling to America later that year.
Donal’s son Barry followed in his footsteps by also going on to play for Donegal.
The Four Masters has paid tribute to Donal who died peacefully at Letterkenny Hospital.
His remains are reposing at the family home at Ardeskin, Donegal Town from 5pm today until 10pm tonight and from 12 noon until 10pm tomorrow.
Removal from the family home on Wednesday is at 10.30am to St Patrick’s Church, Donegal town for 11am funeral Mass with burial immediately afterwards in St Agatha’s Cemetery, Clar.
Family flowers only please donations in lieu to the renal unit Letterkenny University Hospital care of any family member. House strictly private on the morning of the funeral please.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Don, Barry and Marcus, sister Madeline (Griffin) daughter-in-law Paula and grandchildren.
