Garbhán Friel won the Ulster Novice Intermediate title at the Dockworkers Club, Belfast on Friday night.

Former Cockhill Celtic and Finn Harps striker Garbhan Friel has shown he can pack a punch off the pitch too – by winning the Ulster Intermediate title in Belfast last weekend.

Friel, was the top marksman in the USL for a number of years for Cockhill Celtic and earned a move to Finn Harps in 2015.

However, Friel left in July 2015, to join Institute after becoming frustrated with the lack of game time he was getting at Finn Park.

Friel was a talented boxer in his teenage years and recently decided to throw his hat back into the ring.

Illies Golden Gloves Boxing Club posted the following on their Facebook page,

“Congratulations to Garbhán Friel on winning the Ulster Novice Intermediate title at the Dockworkers Club, Belfast on Friday night.”

Friel has now left Institute FC – and could be on his way back to Cockhill Celtic as they look to retain their USL crown.
