DELIGHT AS ROSSES ATHLETE FODHLA MCFADDEN WINS BRONZE AT ALL-IRELAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

All Ireland Medal for Fodhla – Gweedore girl Fodhla McFadden won a fantastic bronze in the triple jump at the All Ireland Junior/u23 Champ’s in the Athlone International Arena at the weekend became the first female athlete to ever win an All Ireland medal in these championships for the club. A huge well done from all at Rosses AC.
The Donegal Athletic board held its sports star awards at the weekend with awards for boys u16 – Patrick Marry, girls u16 – Emilly Croke, boys over 16 – Odhran Mac Ruairi, girls over 16 – Fodhla McFadden. Well done to David Geoghegan, Cruit who was 6th in the Fastest Kid competition. Well done to our local schools – Pobalscoil GD, RCS And Pobalscoil CCF who took part in Donegal secondary schools Sportshall final in Raphoe. The club was well represented with athletes from the club in all 3 schools. Congrats to Pobalscoil GD who won the girls comp and to PCC who won the boys. Special thanks to teachers in charge – Gavin ward (RCS), Stephen Doohan (PCC) and Ita Gallagher (PSGD).
Nineteen athletes from the North West competed at the Sportshall Athletics to pick Donegal U-13 and U-15 teams for the Ulster Sportshall Athletics Final in Magherafelt on 10th March. In the U-13 Girls Leah Mc Garvey won the 2 lap race, the 4 lap race and the Speed Bounce. Emilly Croke won the Shot Putt. Mia Baikie 2nd in the 2 lap race, 3rd Long Jump and 4th in 4 lap race. Caoimhe Ní Fhearraigh was 3rd in Vertical Jump. Good performances also from Aoibhinn Mc Elroy, Charmaine Caldwell and Grainne Mc Glynn.U-13 Boys – Gaoth Dobhair lad Johnson Bangora was the star performer in the Boys U-13 winning the 2 lap race, Standing Long Jump, Vertical Jump and was 2nd in the Triple Jump. Falcarragh lad Conor Coyle in his first year in athletics won the Standing Triple Jump and was 3rd in the 4 Lap race and in the Standing Long Jump. Good performance from John Gallagher, Acres NS in his first competition. Emma Brown, Pobal Scoil Ghaoth Dobhair was the star performer in the U-15 Girls competition. Emma won the 2 Lap race, the 4 Lap race and was 2nd in the Standing Long Jump and the Vertical Jump. Good performances from Aoise Willoughby, Orfhlaith Winters, Mia Mc Devitt, Emma Doherty and Caoimhe Boyle.
In the U-15 Boys competition there were good performances from John Boyle, Sean O’Donnell and Joe Sharkey.Good luck to all the North West athletes competing in the Ulster Indoor Athletics Ch’s in Magherafelt this weekend with most competing on the Saturday and a handful competing on the Sunday.
Table quiz for Rosses A.C. in Caisleain Oir Annagry on Wednesday 10th February. Starts at 10.00. Your support or donations would be very much appreciated.
Registration Due: Reminder that registration fees for the year are now due. Prices for 2016 are: adult €20, 1st child €15, 2nd child €15, 3rd child €10, family €40. It is important that for insurance reasons only registered members of the club are permitted to attend training sessions. Registration lasts for a calendar year (January – December), all membership will expire on 31st December annually regardless of which month it commenced and will need to be renewed again every January. Registration forms can be obtained at any of the club training sessions check facebook, by emailing request to rossesac@yahoo.ie for registration form.
The club will have about twenty athletes taking part in the Donegal Sportshall Athletics trials being held in the Aura on Sunday 31st January at 1.00pm. Entry fee is €5 and registration opens at 12.30 pm.
Sportshall Athletics continues on Mondays in RCS gym, Dungloe. First group is from 5:45pm to 6:45pm for athletes born 2006, 2007 and 2008 with coaches Leanne Sharkey, Emer McGee and Grace Garvie. Second session is from 6:45pm to 7:45pm for athletes born 2005 and older with coaches Louise Gillespie and Sean McGinley. Fee is two euro.
Adult training continues Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Estate in Gweedore starting at 7pm. Meet at Euroflex. All levels of athletes or runners welcome.
