SWIMMING: SWILLY SEALS WIMMERS IMPRESS IN BANGOR

IMAG1113Nine swimmers from Swilly Seals A.S.C travelled to Bangor on Saturday 13th February for the Swim Ulster Spring Meet. The three day event held in the fabulous facility at Bangor saw top swimmers from Ulster compete in the 50 Metre pool.

These swimmers were racing to achieve qualifying times to enter either the Ulster Age Groups (UAG) or Irish Age Groups (IAG) division 1 and 2.

Thomas Coyle put in fine performances achieving qualifying times for IAG division two in the 200m Individual Medley and 400m Freestyle he also qualified for division one in the 100m Freestyle. These times also see him quality for UAG. Thomas lifted Bronze in the 50m Freestyle.

Joyce Hudy had a busy weekend achieving IAG division two times in five events including 100m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, 200m Freestyle, 200m Individual Medley and 200m Butterfly. Joyce will go forward to IAG division one with times previously attained and she will be busy in the UAG competition with all these events now qualified for. Joyce won Bronze in the 50m Freestyle and 200m individual Medley and secured Silver in the 200m Butterfly.

Jonathan Martin having won Gold in the Ulster Schools for the 100m Backstroke and Bronze in the 200m Individual Medley the previous weekend won a Bronze medal in the 400m Freestyle. He also achieved three division two times in the 200m Individual Medley, 100m Freestyle and the 400m Freestyle.

Kira Mills swam in the 100m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley setting personal best times in each event. Her hard training paying off over the winter.

Cian Mulligan set some huge personal best times over the weekend. He also gained qualifying times in no less than six events for IAG division two in the 200m Individual Medley, 200m Freestyle, 200m Breaststroke, 100m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and 400m Freestyle. Cian also achieved a qualifying time for IAG division one in the 100m Breaststroke.

Molly Nulty who won all five events entered in the Bangor Minors Meet on her last visit to Bangor showed her usual class winning Bronze in the 50m Freestyle, Silver in the 200m Breaststroke and Gold in the 50m Butterfly. Molly also gained qualifying times for the IAG division two in events 200m Individual Medley, 200m Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle and an UAG time in the 200m Freestyle.

Sean Pascaul showed great form in the 200m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle. Sean gained a valuable IAG division two time in the 100m Breaststroke.

Grainne Russell set new personal best times throughout the weekend and gained three IAG qualifying times for the 100m Butterfly, 100m Freestyle and in the 200m Individual Medley.

Bronagh Sheridan swam in the 200m Individual Medley, 200m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke setting new personal best times in all. She also gained a IAG division two time in the 200m Breaststroke and a IAG division one time in the 100m Breaststroke.

A huge congratulations to all swimmers. These swimmers will now be training hard towards the Ulster Age Groups and Irish Age Groups division one and two.
