HURLING: A sensational first-half performance from Down inflicted yet another defeat for Donegal’s hurlers this afternoon at O’Donnell Park.

Donegal are still searching for their first league win of the season, and a devastating first-half display dispelled any hopes of Ardal McDermott’s side earning their first win.

3-11 from a rampant Down side in the opening period – meant that it was damaged limitation exercise in the second-half.

Donegal to their credit battled gamely throughout the match, but were simply outclassed by an excellent Down side.

Down have ambitions of promotion this season, and look a side determined to achieve that.

Donegal will face a relegation play-off in order to consolidate their position, but Ardal McDermott is confident they can achieve that.

He was happy with his side’s performance, despite the heavy defeat, praising their togetherness, work ethic and effort.

Final score: Donegal 0-14 Down 3-22
