Ballyliffin Golf Club Results by Phelim Davenport.

On another good weekend weather wise for golf in Ballyliffin the Saturday Open was won by 15 handicapper Vivian Mc Laughlin with 40 pts.  There must be something in the morning air in Ballyliffin because in 2nd place was an early bird as well, Charlie Mc Veigh [13], also with 40pts on the break of a tie.  In 3rd place was teams convenor Paddy Mc Dermott [12] with 39pts.  In 4th place was former Buncrana Hearts stalwart Stephen Mc Nutt [9] with 39pts.  The Gross was taken back to Dublin by Declan Sweeney [7] with 31 gross pts.

With both courses full on an ideal day for golf on Sunday, 130 members battled it out for the McColgan Cup on the Glashedy.  Coming out on top with a great score of 43pts was former captain Paid Sweeney, a steady 21pts on the front 9 was followed by another 22pts on the back 9.  Paid is much too young to know where the Mc Colgan Cup originated from.  In 2nd place was Raymond O Donnell [11] with 41pts.  In 3rd place was a new name to the prizewinners Gabriel Mc Cafferty [27] also with 41pts on the break of a tie.  Back in the prizes after some time out was Des Rooney [16] in 4th place with 40pts.Consistent low handicapper Paul Doherty[C][3] took the Gross with 1 over par round  which gave him 35 Gross pts.  Paul was 1 under after 13 holes but dropped 2 shots on the last 5 holes.

The Wednesday Society also got fine conditions for their latest outing.  Coming out on top with 40pts was that man with the famous name Norman Bates, but there’s nothing Physco about our Norman.  In 2nd place was Specsavers finest Paul O Donoghue with 39pts.  The singing golfer John Mc Eleney kept up his good form with a third place finish with 38pts.
