esb-logoESB has announced that applications to the prestigious ESB Apprenticeship Programme are now open in line with its announcement last year to recruit over 300 apprentices between 2015 and 2020.

This year could see ESB recruit up to another 100 apprentices, some of them based here in County Donegal.

The majority of the apprenticeships this year will be electrical with a small number HGV mechanic apprenticeships. Applications are open online from today until Monday April 4th.

ESB is well-known for its high-quality apprenticeships which result in qualifications in the electrical and mechanical trades.

The ESB Apprenticeship Programme is a keystone for ESB in ensuring that the company maintains the level of skills available for the maintenance and enhancement of Ireland’s electricity system.

Based at the ESB Networks Training Centre in Portlaoise, the electrical apprentices will complete four apprentice training levels totalling 23 weeks training in addition to state training. The four levels in our training centre aim to inspire safety and quality standards in the business.

Speaking about the announcement, ESB Chief Executive Pat O’Doherty said: “Apprenticeships are an invaluable and very effective means of developing high quality skills needed in a modern economy. ESB has been very well served by the existing apprenticeship system and Irish industry and businesses can greatly benefit by the expansion of apprenticeships into other sectors of the economy.”

Applicants are invited to apply to the ESB Apprenticeship Programme online at https://esb.ie/careers/apply-now by Monday April 4 th.
