A Donegal man has blasted the FAI for scheduling an International friendly fixture on Good Friday!

Martin O’Neill’s Republic of Ireland side host Switzerland at the Aviva Stadium tomorrow evening as they continue their preparations for EURO 2016 in France.

However, one Donegal man is disgusted that the FAI have organised a game on what he describes as the most sacred day of the year.

Cathal Gallagher told Donegal Daily, “A football match on Good Friday – the most sacred day of the year is an utter disgrace.

Shame on the FAI, some fans who attend these matches are Catholic – this shows a crass lack of respect for their heritage.

“It’s absolutely disgraceful.”

There is a booze ban nationwide in Ireland, however there will be alcohol on sale in the bars inside the Aviva for tomorrow’s friendly.

Alcohol will be permitted to patrons between 5pm-7pm in the bars around the stadium which has angered Cathal further.

Vintners Federation have increased their calls for the Governement to scrap the law which prohibits the sale of alcohol on Good Friday.

A spokesman said, “We have thousands of tourists that come over here for Easter, and they walk around Ireland on Good Friday dumbfounded that they can’t get in to any bars or restaurants.”
