BUNCRANA CLG NOTES (28.03.2016)
Buncrana 1-14
Burt 1-10
In the second league outing of the year, Buncrana travelled to Burt for a local darby in which they would run out eventual winners by 4 points. Again Buncrana fielded a mixed side of youth and experience. Buncrana trailed at half time by 4 points but with clever use of the wind, and hard work from midfield and half backs, they created some scoring chances. Players like Peter McLaughlin and Garbhan Friel added great composure during the second half. At one point this was overshadowed by a majestic score from corner back, Mickey Gallagher out near the sideline. The introduction of Shane McClean proved itslef when he struck the equalising score. Other young guns like Aodhan Stokes and Noel McLaughlin offered great youth to this side.
Burt 0-6
Buncrana1-9
A good strong hard working performance from the squad saw Buncrana pull away late in the game to finally shake off a strong Burt side who spurned a couple of good goal chances in each half. A solid defensive platform saw the reserves go in at halftime 0-4 0-2 ahead. Anthony Mcgonagle and Sean o Neil stood out ably assisted by John Cassidy and Ronan Dohert X . Worryingly Buncrana hit ten wides in that half. They made better use of possession after the turn and worked tireously. Ciaran Hegarty selflessness and work rate along with A game changing save from Patrick Duffy in goals were decisive in the outcome. Credit also to minors Ryan Mcelhinney and Conor Odonnell who despite playing a match the day before, played their hearts out and were also part of the senior squad today.
