John Boyle has been named as the new vice-president of the Irish National Teachers Organisation.
The new vice-president of the Irish National Teachers’ Organisation is John Boyle, principal teacher in St. Colmcille’s JNS Knocklyon in Dublin.
John went to his local two teacher school, Mullaghduff NS in Co. Donegal before moving to the newly amalgamated Scoil Naomh Duigh Annagaire.
His secondary education was at Pobalscoil Chloich Cheannfhaola. – he graduated from St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra in 1986 and joined the staff of Scoil Mhuire, Ballyboden, Dublin 16.
He taught various classes at Scoil Mhuire and was Home School Community Liaison Co-ordinator before he became principal teacher in St. Colmcille’s JNS, Knocklyon in 2000.
Very early in his teaching career John became an active member of South County Dublin branch of the INTO.
He served as staff representative, branch chairperson and chairperson of INTO District 8 (South Dublin/Wicklow) before being elected to the Central Executive Committee of the union in 2004.
Since then John has represented eight branches in South Dublin and Wicklow.
In his role he has supported hundreds of individual teachers and he has brought issues affecting INTO members to school management and to the Department of Education & Skills.
He has served on many INTO internal committees dealing with teacher employment, pay-equalisation, participation, school discipline, trade union training, professional development, INTO rules, special education, school leadership, school buildings and school inspection.
He has represented INTO on the ICT Committee of NCCA and on the Education Committee of Inclusion Ireland.
He was also a member of the steering committee of the National Pilot Scheme for Teacher Induction.
He currently serves on the committee of Club na Múinteoirí and is a member of the Board Oversight Committee of Comhar Linn INTO Credit Union.
John Boyle has been very involved in community groups and initiatives from an early age. He’s very interested in Irish culture and heritage, music, drama and the visual arts – being a lifelong member of the Mullaghduff Senior Fife & Drum Band.
He has served on the committee of the Donegal Association in Dublin.
An avid sports follower, who seldom misses an Irish Soccer or Rugby match, John’s main ‘sideline’ is his GAA involvement.
He chaired Cumann na mBunscol Atha Cliath at the beginning of the millennium.
He has also been Chairperson of Wanderers GAA Club, Ballyboden for 10 years.
