POIGNANT MOMENT AS BUNCRANA MAN WINS €25,000 ON LATE LATE SHOW

Ryan Tubridy was respectful to the people of Buncrana on his show.

A Buncrana man has struck a chord with the nation after he was chosen randomly as the winner of the Late Late Show cash prize of €25,000.

The man, known as John Boy, was telephoned by chat-show host Ryan Tubridy who did not even know the winner was from Co Donegal.

The phonecall came just minutes after Tubridy had interviewed RTE’s Northern Editor Tommie Gorman about the tragic events in Buncrana last weekend.

Gorman spoke of the tremendous community spirit in Donegal and Derry and of the remarkable bravery of Davitt Walsh from Kerrykeel.

But Tubridy was left genuinely shocked when he realised the prizewinner was from the town which has been plunged into such sadness in recent days.

As a mark of respect the host instructed the Late Late Show housebound not to play the usual celebratory music as Tubridy informed the Buncrana resident he had won €25,000.

Ryan then asked John Boy how things were in Buncrana and he replied that it was indeed a sad time in Buncrana at present.

It was a small piece of good news in a town which has suffered more than it’s fair share of bad news in recent years.

Congratulations to John Boy and health to enjoy his winnings.
