LETTERKENNY BLAZE NOTES
Under 12 GIRLS REPORT
The U12 girls participated in the last BNI U12 Blitz for the 15/16 season which was hosted by Queens BC. With 9 girls teams and 9 boys teams, the coaches and committee members of Queens BC co-ordinated an action packed day which commenced at 11am and finished at 5pm. Both Blaze girls and boys teams participated in the afternoon line up. Blaze girls played a total of 4 games against girls from Andersonstown Tigers BC, Tyrone Towers BC, Star BC and Queens BC. Blaze girls got of to a good start securing the first game against Tigers. They were narrowly beaten in the second game against Tyrone Towers which proved to be a well contested physical encounter. After a short break, Blaze girls returned to court with back to back games against Star and Queens. Blaze girls dominated in both games and all players were adapting to the shorter fast paced style of play which this Blitz format offers. All girls played very well on the day. A big “thank you” from players, coaches and parents to all at Queens BC.
UNDER 12 BOYS REPORT
The u12 boys and u12 girls made the journey up the M2 to Belfast on Sunday 3rd April to attend Queens Basketball Club Invitational Blitz. They boys travelled with 15 players to play opponents Queens BC, Phoenix BC, Tigers BC from Anderstown and Belfast Star BC. With little time to warm up, the first 2 games were over before they knew it and they had clocked up 2 losses, albeit by a basket in each case. They played much better basketball in the game v AnderstownTigers and won comprehensively. In the last game against Belfast Star, they opened brightly, playing very strong defence. But the home team moved up a gear and opened a gap in the last half that was too big to bridge and Belfast Star finished the tournament winners. A good day all round where the Blaze boys flew the Donegal flag proudly and a good finish to a great season. The coaches would like to commend all the boys for their efforts all year and the club and parents for support.
