DDTV: REMEMBERING FIONA BARRON FOUR YEARS ON

It’s a year since Bri Carr and Foireann Bri represented Ireland to come second in the international pan Celtic song contest with Arranmhor, and Donegal’s Eve Belle came second this weekend with her song, Craiceann is Cnamha (Skin and Bones) – a tremendous double run for Donegal.

However, it’s 10 years since the Donegal flag flew for Ireland with Seolfaidh me abhaile, also by Bri Carr, with assistance on lyrics by Glenswilly teacher, Geraldine Galligan.

The group featured on BBC World, RTE’s Ardan and went on to win the international title in 2006, a first for Donegal.

The group consisted of Bri and Geraldine, with Celine Quigley (Carndonagh) on strings, Frances Boyle (Dungloe) on bodhran and the multi talented young Fiona Barron on flute.

The group released a tribute to the anniversary of winning the title in loving memory of their youngest member, Fiona Barron, who sadly passed away due to SADS at only 21 years of age just four years ago.

Fiona was a wonderful girl with many awards for flute, whistle, singing and even lilting at National level, Fiona was exceptional. May she rest in peace.

With all the fabulous songs emerging over the centenary, we felt it apt and fitting to share this special poignant song – and video- with you.

Seolfaidh me abhaile, I will sail home.
