Donegal Town RFC 2nd’s hammer local rivals Finn Valley RFC 68 to 27
Donegal Town RFC 2nd’s completed their season with an impressive ten try haul against local rivals Finn Valley RFC at the Holmes on Saturday.
Donegal Town began the game with a blistering pace, and within the first five minutes crossed the try line for the game’s opening score through Gareth McMurray. Hugh Morrow kicked the resulting conversion to put the home side into a seven point lead.
The game looked ominous for the visiting side, which started the match off with thirteen men. However Finn Valley hit straight back, scoring a penalty and a converted try to lead the match ten seven.
The home side sparked back into life and began to offload the ball in contact which led to Donegal Town scoring a brace of try’s, with Paul Cassidy and Richard Gallagher crossing the whitewash. Hugh Morrow added the resulting conversions to leave the home side 21 to 10 up.
Donegal added another converted try before half time through Hugh Morrow. But a lapse in concentration and some lax tackling allowed Finn Valley to go over for their second try of the match. Donegal led 28 to 15 at halftime.
This local derby marked the end of the season for both sides. After a slow start, Donegal Town has had a relatively successful season. Donegal managed to hammer 3rd place Enniskillen in their previous fixture and where only outclassed by run-away league leaders Clogher Valley.
Donegal Town started the second half, as they had ended the first by scoring two converted try’s in the first ten minutes through Hugh Morrow and Richard Gallagher. Finn Valley never capitulated and added another try to leave the scoreboard 42 to 20 in favor of the home side.
Donegal Town continued their scoring streak by adding try’s number seven, eight and nine through Cormac Gallagher, Ciaran Harley and Gareth McMurray with Hugh Morrow adding the two of the three conversions. Finn Valley hit back with their fourth try of the game, which was converted to leave the score 63 to 27.
Donegal Town got their tenth and final try of the match in the final five minutes of the game through Aaron McGroary , which was converted to leave the scoreboard 68 27 at the final whistle.
