Naomh Padraig Uisce Chaoin Notes
Results:
Our Senior squad beat Red Hughs 2-10 to 1-9 in an open and free flowing game of football in Ture on Saturday evening.Damien Diver opened the scoring on two minutes for the Muff men with a well taken point and two minutes later Damien Brown levelled from a free. The first of four points from frees from the Killygordon man on the night.
A well contested game saw the two sides contesting strongly with both keepers doing well to deny first Aidan Lynch of Muff and then Calvin Bradley of Red Hughs what looked like certain goals.A second Diver point on 15 minutes was followed immediately by a fine strike from James Carlin to level score and within minutes both teams were 3-3. Naomh Padraig then started to pull ahead with scores from Diver again and Colm McColgan. Further Muff points from Aidan Lynch, Damien Diver and Dara McConway were answered by 2 Red Hugh scores but the Muff men went in 8-5 up at half time.
The second half started well for Killygordon with a Damien Brown point from a free, but then following a tremendous block from Gary McKinney in his own box, the ball was worked down field where Aidan Lynch burst the net for a Muff goal. 1-9 to 0-6 to the peninsula boys. This was followed less than one minute later by a second Muff goal, this time for Dara McConway. Two goals within one minute might have totally discouraged any other team but not Red Hughs however and a series of frees saw three points on the trot for the Killygordon men and Muff were looking uncomfortable. Anto McColgan pegged one back for Naomh Padraig on 55 minutes, but then a penalty was awarded to Red Hughes just at the end of normal time which saw Calvin Bradley stroke his opportunity past Joe McCauley who put in an otherwise excellent performance in goals.
That was to be the last score, despite Red Hughs finishing strongly, and Naomh Padraig won by 4 points at the end, 2-10 to 1-9.
