ATHLETICS: TIR CHONAILL AC ATHLETES PERFORM WELL IN DONEGAL TOWN

Tir Chonaill AC Open T&F Champs:

The Club had a very enjoyable day at a very well run and organised Tir Chonaill AC open meet in Donegal town yesterday.

A total of 11 athletes competed putting there track and field training to the test in the first of the Club’s outdoor competitions with the athletes giving very impressive performances. Thanks to the parents and coaches who helped out on the day.  Some pictures on the Tir chonaill A.C facebook site.

Lara Doherty: Gweedore had a fantastic run in the u16 Girls 800m where she proved that she is well able to hold her own against older athletes and later demonstrated her versatility competing in the longjump.
Brian Sharkey: had a strong run in the u12 600m and also picked up a medal in the shotput.
Tomas Marry :had some big throws in the U18 shot as he targets the up and coming schools championships. Patrick Marry :showed his class winning the highjump and also competed in the sprint and long jump.
Riana McBride :picked up golds in the womens u18 Highjump where she continues to improve and also the longjump.
Aoife McGee: was among the medal winners in the u12 60m and jumped very well in the longjump.
Emma Brown :did well in the hurdles, a new event for her and gained good experience in the sprint and longjump.
Mia McDevitt :was very impressive in the highjump setting a new pb and had a good longjump.
Joe Sharkey: picked up medals in the highjump, hurdles and picked up a pb in the longjump.
Emilly Croke :easily win the girls shot setting herself up well for the coming season.
Lea  McGarvey: showed nice form in the longjump with a few solid jumps and did well in the highjump and sprints.

Track & Field Training.
A reminder to all Club athletes, the Club’s track & field season is only a few weeks away and athletes should make a special effort to attend all training sessions.
Training continues this Tuesday and Thursday 6-7pm at theTrack Carrickfinn for ages 7 – 19yrs and Sunday 10am for u13yrs and older.  Fee €2 bring water.
Donegal Secondary school results.
Well done to our club athletes who competed in the Donegal secondary Schools competition in Lifford today. 4 seasons in one day as conditions were unfavourable however this did not hinder their performances . The Marry brothers, Tomas and Patrick performed well showing their talents over a number of events. Emma Nic A Bhreithiun showed fine performer to pocket 2 golds in the first year Girls 100 m and 200m , Leah Nic Ghairbhigh was second in the first year girls 200 m , Joe O Searcaigh was the gold medal winner in the first year boys 200m . Riona Nic Giolla Bhride jumped well to earn her gold in the third year Girls high jump . Senior girls events were dominated by Fodhla Nic Phaidin showing fine form in the 100 m and  Ailbhe Ni Dhonaill winning the 400m . Eamonn O Gallchoir was second in the second year boys shot putt and Maedhbh Nic Giolla Bhride battled well to earn second in the senior girls 800 m . Three of the relay teams won gold medals and many of our athletes were members of these teams …well done to all our athletes .

Northwest 10k
Well done to the large number of athletes who turned out on Sunday to the north west 10k. Some very impressive times on the day.
Lifford/Straban Open Meet:

Well done to our senior and masters athletes that competed in the Lifford/Starban open T& F meet in Lifford on Monday.  Big Joe Joyce claimed victory in his category of the mens shotput with a great throw of 8.67m. Donal Walsh competing for the first time on the track, registered some great times in the 200m & 400m. Elise Gillespie win the ladies javelin and had a strong run in the womens 800m. Fodhla McFadden securedv victory in the senior womens triplejump with a good jump of 10.57m.  Aidan Gillespie win the mens longjump jumping over 6m. These athletes will now be targeting the Donegal Champ’s at the end of the month.
