RELAY FOR LIFE TO HELP LOCAL DONEGAL CHARITIES THIS YEAR

Relay4Life 110Since 2012, Relay For Life Donegal, with the fantastic support it has obtained from the people of Donegal, has raised significant monies to help fight against Cancer.

This year, they are delighted to be able to help local charities in an unique manner and are now seeking applications from any charity that feels they could benefit from this opportunity.

For those of you who are familiar with the wonderful 24 hour event will know, one of the highlights is the Luminaria or Candle of Hope ceremony, which takes place at 10.30pm on the Saturday night.

The Candle of Hope bags have been kept in place by filling each bag with sand and this is a huge logistical task for the hard working volunteers both before and after the ceremony.

In order to make this task easier, the committee has secured a wonderful sponsorship deal with BWG Foods through their SPAR shops. We approached them seeking tins of food to put in the bags instead of sand and suggested that once the event was over we would donate the cans to local charities that would be in a position to make good use of the tins afterwards.

We are delighted to say that they have very kindly donated 5000 cans of food to Relay For Life Donegal for this purpose.

We are therefore seeking applications from any charity that would be interested in taking some or indeed all of these cans and turning this extremely generous offer from SPAR to us into an even more beneficial final outcome.

If you are interested then please contact either Robert O’Connor, Chairman, Relay For Life Donegal, on 087-2716344 or Seamus Devine, Logistics Officer, on 087-2482775.
