Plans to turn the Stars Wars ‘Millennium Falcon’ at Malin Head into a tourist attraction have been grounded.

There has been speculation that the structure, built in recent weeks, would become a magnet for sic-fi fans from around the globe.

But a spokesperson for Donegal County Council said it is unlikely that the film set including the Falcon will be maintained.

“As far as we know this is not the case – it is unlikely that the falcon will be staying in Ireland,” said the spokesperson.

The film’s set location is set on private lands which were rented out to film-makers for the duration of the two week stay by Lucas Films.

A road would have to be built through the lands leading to the film set which is located on a cliff edge.

Despite the dismantling of the Millennium Falcon in the coming days, the Inishowen Peninisula is still feeling the ‘Force’ form the filming of the planet’s biggest blockbuster.

None more so than Farren’s Bar in Malin Head which has become a mecca for Star Wars’ fans form around the globe.

Pride of place is the Stormtrooper boot which was siigned by none other than Luke Skywalker himself, actor Mark Hamill, who dropped by unannounced to the remote bar after he finished filming on Sunday night last.

Fans are queuing to have their pictures taken with the signed boot and also the mural of Yoda outside the bar.
