Malin 2-10 Glenfin 0-13

Malin secured a home victory in a tight game with Kieron McColgan and Brendan McLaughlin goal’s and a penalty save this week again from Darragh McLaughlin being the difference.

Glenfin opened the scoring through Michael McGlynn, who hit a good effort from a central position 30 yards out. They followed this up with a point from Daniel McGlynn who cut in from the left before fisting over.

Danny McCarron opened Malin’s account from the right after he had done well to recover Brendan McLaughlin skewed goal effort. Anthony Kelly leveled with a free after Dan McDaid had been brought down. Michael McGlynn swung over in response for Glenfin after good work from Daniel McGlynn. Kevin McGlynn then hit an excellent score under pressure and Michael McGlynn used the wind to curl a left-footed point from out on the right. Malin got back on terms when Anthony Kelly worked a short free into Brendan McLaughlin, who turned his man before advancing and blasting high into the net past the hapless O’Meara. Anthony Kelly’s free put Malin ahead for the first time but Paddy O’Connor’s late high free left the sides level at half-time Malin 1-03 Glenfin 0-06.Malin GAA

Frank McGlynn hit a good score from distance at the start of the second half but Darren McLarkey responded immediately with an equally good score from out the left. Kieron McColgan, who scored a fortunate goal in the return game with Glenfin at the start of the season, was at it again with rasper from the 21’ with the outside of the boot flew into the top corner past O’Meara, sparking debate in the terraces was it meant or a pointed effort dropped short.

Either way Malin were ahead, though Glenfin had an immediate chance to respond which seen a good move ended when Daniel McGlynn was brought down for a penalty. Darragh McLaughlin, last week’s championship hero was at again stopping O’Connor’s penalty and Malin scrambled the ball clear. Danny McCarron then pointed from out wide and Brendan McLaughlin split the posts from 30 yards out as Malin stretched the lead to five.

Jason Morrow’s run and point and a free from O’Connor kept Glenfin in the contest before Paul McLaughlin latched onto Anthony Kelly’s kickout knock down and burst through from half back down the right before powering over. O’Connor hit two frees to bring the game back to two. Gary Farren and DanMcDaid then exchanged a number of one-twos before Farren scored from 30 yards. O’Connor again responded with a free for Glenfin. Dan McDaid handpassed over the bar for Malin after good work in the corner from McLaughlin and Anthony Kelly sealed the win with a long range free, though Frank McGlynn hit a late consolation quick free but Malin held out for the victory.
