Donegal TD Pearse Doherty has tabled a Private Member’s Motion to be taken in Sinn Féin’s time this Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Sinn Fein Deputy called on all TDs and especially Fianna Fail’s two Donegal TDs to back up their election promises and support the motion.
Deputy Doherty “I am delighted that Sinn Fein has taken this initiative in its first Private Member’s slot of the new Dáil to unambiguously put our position forward. I am grateful to the other Right 2 Water TDs for supporting the motion and co-signing it.
“The motion is short and clear- it calls for the end of water charges, the establishment of a public water and sanitation board to deliver water on the basis of need and to set a date for a referendum to enshrine the public ownership of water services in the Constitution of Ireland.
“The motion has the support of Sinn Féin’s 23 TDs as well as others. If Fianna Fáil keep their pre-election promise then this motion can win the majority of the Dail and consign water charges to history.
“I am calling on all Donegal TDs especially the Fianna Fail ones to keep their promise and support Sinn Féin’s motion this week. The majority of the Dáil were elected on an anti-water charges ticket. Now it is time for TDs to put their money where their mouth is and support the Sinn Féin motion.”
