PRINCE CHARLES: NOW I WANT TO VISIT TORY (AND MEET THE KING)

NO-FEE-HRH-VISIT-TO-GLENVEAGH-NAT-PARK-MX7PRINCE Charles may be returning to Donegal – to meet the King of Tory.

The British royal paid a private visit to Glebe House overlooking Gartan yesterday during his tour of Donegal.

And he expressed a hope of one day going to Tory to see where his artistic mentor Derek Hill used to paint.

Earlier Charles had told an audience in Letterkenny: “His (Derek Hill’s) love of Donegal is well-known. Perhaps his greatest contribution to local culture was his encouragement of the now world-famous Tory Island art.

“In fact, amongst quite a collection I have of his paintings, I have one or two that he did on Tory Island and he used to tell me an awful lot about it.”

Later in the day he went to the Glebe Gallery on a private tour and spoke about wanting to see Tory for himself and see the landscapes in the Hill paintings he has.

We understand Charles also knew Tory has its own reigning monarch and said it would be great to meet him.

A return visit to Donegal next year could now be on the cards, according to officials.

And it could see Ireland’s last king, Patsy Dan Rodgers, meet a prince on the famous gaeltacht island.
