Daniel O’Donnell has admitted he loved being a typical embarrassing dad – and even threatened to sing to his stepdaughter’s boyfriends.

The 54-year-old country crooner recently sang at his step-daughter Siobhan’s wedding but he admits she wasn’t always so keen on having him around.

The Donegal singer said: “I remember when she brought her first boyfriend home, I said to Siobhan, ‘When will I sing when he comes? “Will I sing when I meet him at the door or when we’ve shown him around?’

“She was going mad. God love her, she was afraid I was going to embarrass her but I got to sing at her wedding.”

Daniel also told TV Now magazine about how his wife Majella has captured the hearts of the nation through her honesty.

He said proudly: “Without courting it, she has gained an awful lot of respect from people.

“She spoke about her depression by default and then it all focused on that. Then she had the cancer diagnosis.

“All these things happened and it was the way she dealt with it that captured people’s attention.

“So she’s a strong person; very individual. Not a follower.”
