Coleman is disappointed Ireland have been knocked out.

Captain courageous Seamus Coleman has said he genuinely felt Ireland could have beaten France in today’s crunch Euro 2016 game.

The Killybegs man was once again outstanding for his country as he wore the captain’s armband with pride.

But it wasn’t enough as France came from behind to beat Ireland 2-1.

Coleman admitted that he felt Ireland could have won the game and said he was “deeply disappointed.”

But he said the team had but up a special bond with the fans and that he hoped the team had made the country proud.

Coleman said “We’re very disappointed. We felt like to was there for us. We’re just so disappointed and that shows how well we done. I felt like it was there for us.

“I would have loved to go a bit further of the fans. We hope we made people proud. We (the fans) only had a little corner of the ground but they were so loud and positive. We haver a special bond between the fans and the players.”

Ireland got a dream start after Shane Long was upended in the French box in the second minute and Robbie Brady scored a super penalty.

Ireland soaked up the pressure and went in 1-0 up at half-time.

But two goals from Antoine Griezmann and a wave of French attacks couple with the sending of of Shane Duffy in the second half put the game beyond Ireland’s reach.

It’s the end of the Irish dream but the behaviour of the Irish team and their superb fans will long live in the memory of sports fans around the world.

Be proud. #COYBIG!
