HOW ONE COMMUNITY WILL MAKE ‘NORA’S WISH’ COME TRUE

written by Stephen Maguire July 15, 2016

FB_IMG_1468514637043A Donegal community has come together to honour one of its residents after she passed away.

Nora McDaid moved to Burtonport 30 years ago with her husband Manus and daughter Leonora and opened McDaid’s Bar in Acres.

They lived beside all her family including her three sisters and brother along with countless cousins nieces and nephews.

The late Nora

The late Nora

She was very family orientated and doted on her three grandaughters. She loved the community of burtonport, and loved being in behind the bar talking to the local to all hours of the night!

In may 2015 she was diagnosed with lung cancer. And sadly lost her short battle with cancer.

When Nora was sick she said, while looking out her window at the bar “next year we’ll do something for the people who help the sick.”

Sadly as Nora lost her battle with her illness, her family are going to carry out her wish this July 24th.

The event will be called ‘Nora’s Wish’ and all proceeds from the day to the Good and the New Cancer Bus, Friends of Letterkenny Hospital, and the End of Life Care in Dungloe Hospital where Nora passed away.

It will be an all day event with a fun day for the kids with a bouncy castle, facepainting and disco from 2pm – 4pm

From 4pm on there will me music from artists such as the Irish brigade, Mad Dog McCrea, The Tippers, Sean Thomas Gallagher, Sean Gallagher and DJ Tubsy.

There will also be a special tribute to Nora and all cancer patients who survived and who passed on.

We hope you can all come out and support the day.
