After a hugely successful two weeks of music, family fun, workshops and spoken word events, the 28th Earagail Arts Festival draws to a close this weekend with an exciting two-day family focused weekend in Malin Town.
Wild Atlantic World – The Village Fair, runs from Saturday, 23rd – Sunday 24th July, on the Village Green in Malin and will play host to some of the funniest, gravity-defying and imaginative street and circus performers from across the island of Ireland, chaperoned by the Stormtroopers and Jedi of the 501st Ireland Garrison.
There’s still a packed programme of events for all the family across the county this weekend, and this Thursday marks the opening night of the Earagail Arts Festival centre-piece production, Unified.
Another highlight of this weekend includes ‘In The Shadows of Steam’, a stunning new collaboration between four acclaimed artists, producers and composers from around the UK and Ireland: Erland Cooper, Hannah Peel, Michael Keeney, and Tommy McLaughlin. This unique show is an astounding project as it effortlessly crosses music genres.
Each song has been infused with the musical influences of each performer, ranging from Björk, Bat for Lashes, Divine Comedy, to New Order and more, with an overarching aspect that could be compared to the terrific band, Public Service Broadcasting. The result is an eclectic collection of songs that come together to create one of the most insightful and incisive musical performances you’re ever likely to see.

A return bus will leave Letterkenny (outside Mr. Chippie) at 7pm and costs €5 per person.
Tracing the lost lines of the railways of Donegal and Northern Ireland, still etched and hidden beneath Irish soil, this specially commissioned work draws on the wonder and memories of a time only now visible by a track through the hills and country. Prior to the rise of the road, the artists explore this unique history and ask who sold the steel that brought many thousands of people to those majestic coastal ways and many more finally to the new world across the ocean?
In the Shadows of Steam is commissioned and produced by Paul Brown and Tommy McLaughlin for Earagail Arts Festival Management Company Limited and Attica Audio in partnership with Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival and Celtic Connections and is supported through Beyond Borders and Attica Audio. In the Shadows of Steam takes place in McGrory’s of Culdaff on Saturday, 23rd July at 8pm and tickets cost €15/€12. Volunteers: Every year, the festival relies heavily on the support of volunteers and pictured is this year’s Volunteers Co-ordinator, Donna McDade alongside two festival stalwarts, Kim Holmes and Louise Rosney. Ahead of this weekend’s events, the ladies popped in to refuel at Letterkenny café, Berry Layne, who sponsored the t-shirts for this year’s festival.
