Missouri calls as Roger cycles across America

Letterkenny man Roger Holmes is continuing his cycle across America in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.

He has plenty of cuts and bruises and longs of kicking back and relaxing in New York City.

This is his latest dispatch from Missouri.

“I’m in Clinton, Missouri; a nice old classic American town with about 8k people. Erica at the local Chamber gave me a warm welcome and told me all about the town. Im excited to be here as this is the start of The Katy Trail; a 240 mile bike trail leading all the way to St Louis. No traffic for a while so that will be good.

“Kansas was flat and uneventful and in places reminded me of The Wizard of Oz! Missouri is more hilly, with trees and lakes.

“Back in Newton, Kansas I met Robert- Cheryl Palmer and had a great conversation over breakfast. He was so kind and helpful. Yet another good person who Ive met along the way.

“About a week ago I met an otherwise sensible man who told me to get to NYC before August 2nd as Marshall Law is coming! And then ”The Big Guy and Satan will have a shoot out and it will all be over”. He called it: ”The Obama-nation”. To be honest Im more worried about heat…all the TV networks are warning about severe heatwaves all across the mid-west and towards the East coast. Ive been in 110 a few weeks ago in Utah, so Peggy and I will keep going.

“My hip is still sore and some days its hard to keep going. But I concentrate on doing good in the hope that good things will happen. So far that has been the case. Im tired all the time now but keep hoping that all the blood sweat and tears will lead to a good outcome for the ‪#‎IrishCancerSociety‬. Id love to kick back and relax…hopefully that will happen soon in NYC.”
