And they’re off……in Ballintra today!

It’s all systems go for south Donegal’s major horse racing meeting this Bank Holiday Monday.

Punters in the south Donegal area were disappointed earlier this year when it was announced that the Ballintra Races had been postponed due to the reseeding of the course which will ensure that it is in top class condition in future years.

However, after a lot of behind the scenes work, it was confirmed that the the races will go ahead but on the alternative venue at Bundoran Racecourse in Finner.

A spokesperson for the race committee said: “If the races are successful this year then we would hope to revive the meeting and hold it either in June or July as an annual event. We have a truly great course with ample parking. It has great potential.”

Letterkenny man, Collie O’Donnell, who is synonymous with racing in the North West, said a top day is promised.

“It is short notice but we have all the facilities in place and people on the ground who know exactly what they are doing. I feel it can be a very successful meeting and a great social occasion.

“Apart from racing, we will have plenty of facilities for all the family. This will be a great family day for young and old.”
