Runners in Sunday’s Riverine 10K, in Lifford/Strabane, had to contend with tough weather conditions, including a strong wind. However, Pauric Breslin made light of the weather. He had focused his recent training specifically on 10K and his dedication paid off with an excellent time of 33.46. The race was won by Foyle Valley AC’s ubiquitous Scott Rankin in a very fast time of 30.47.

Fionnuala Diver had another superb performance. She ran 37.15, her 2nd best ever 10K time, to pick up first prize in the women’s race. Martin Devenney had a strong run, to finish in 38.38. There were also good performances from another 2 LAC runners who ran sub 40 minutes. Niall Barry clocked 39.28 and Paul Cosgrove came home in 39.42.
Monica McGranaghan’s fine form continued and she defied the adverse conditions by achieving a PB. Her time of 40.48 took 25 seconds off her previous best.

All at Letterkenny Athletic Club would like to wish every future happiness to club members Jane McGinley and Ivan Toner, who were married last Thursday.

Barry Mackey travelled to the northern Donegal town of Clonmany last Wednesday. Frequent racer Barry clocked 20.13 for the 5K. The race was won by Foyle Valley AC’s Scott Rankin. His time of 15.26 put him over a minute clear of his nearest challenger.

There was a double success for Letterkenny AC runners in Thursday evening’s Creeslough 5K, with 2 in-form runners, Liam Doherty and Noeleen Scanlan, continuing their successful summer. Liam was first across the line in 17.36 and Noeleen was the first woman in 19.50. The race was run over a very hilly course.

Dedicated Letterkenny parkrun competitor, Peter McLean, ran his 19th parkrun on Saturday and achieved a course PB, of 26.08. Peter’s time gave him 1st place in the M55-59 category.

Richard Raymond has had a very successful summer in the M60 category and his time of 45.40 gave him 3rd place in the M60s. The category was highly competitive, with Peter Lilburn (Spartans AC), one of Ireland’s top M60 runners, finishing in 38.58.

It was with great sadness that the club learned of the death of Leo Finnegan. Letterkenny AC wishes to offer sincere condolences to his wife, Louise, a long standing club member, and to his children, Ciara and Ruairi, also club athletes. May he rest in peace.
