OLYMPICS: Mark English will make his bid to reach a dream Olympic final in less than an hour’s time with his heat expected to take place at 2.26am.

English produced a superb performance on Friday to ensure his passage to the semi-final.

The UCD medical student delivered a classy and controlled performance, and said he felt comfortable in the final 200m.

However, English is in a top-class field in his semi-final heat tonight, and will more than likely need to produce the quickest run of his lie to reach an Olympic final.

Hundreds are expected to stay up late tonight to hopefully witness English book his place in an Olympic final, which would really be an incredible achievement.

English’s heat is expected to begin at 2.26am – and live coverage of the race will be screened on RTE and BBC.

We wish Mark well in his bid to make an Olympic final in Rio.
