Brazilian authorities stormed his five-star hotel room, and arrested Hickey on Wednesday morning.

Police believe they have gathered evidence that suggest Mr Hickey was in involved in a touting operation with British company THG Sports,  whose Dublin finance director is Kevin Mallon.

Mallon was arrested in Rio on August 5th in possession of 823 tickets said to have been earmarked for the OCI.

If found guilty Hickey could spend up to seven years in prison.
