Agony for Donegal as Galway advance to All-Ireland Minor final

GAA: There was agony for Donegal this afternoon at Croke Park in their All-Ireland MFC semi-final clash against Galway.

Goals in either half from Robert Finnerty and Desmond Connolly were the crucial scores in the match.

In truth, Galway were the better side and looked like a really classy side throughout.

Robert Finnerty was the outstanding player on show, and he really looks like a top-class talent for the Tribesmen. He scored 1-06 in total and was a constant menace.

His goal after six minutes meant Donegal were always chasing Galway – and SP Barrett’s side never got any closer than within three points of Galway.

In the second-half, Galway spurned a series of chances to go further ahead, but they got the crucial score with just over ten minutes left to play.

The outstanding Finnerty turned his marker and laid it on a plate for Desmond Connolly and he finished expertly to put Galway six ahead.

Donegal refused to lie down, and showed fantastic resilience and fighting spirit, and roared back in the contest through Enda McCormack.

He burst through the Galway defence, and scored a spectacular goal to give Donegal hope.

However, Galway showed their class and composure and added another two points to extend their lead to five.

Donegal came back and almost scored another goal, but it wasn’t to be.

It’s been a great season for the Donegal Minors winning the Ulster MFC title, and they’ve done the county proud.

Well done to SP Barrett and his management staff and all the players on a great season.

Final score: Galway 2-12 Donegal 1-11
