Kilcar hammer St Michael’s to send out real message of intent

Martin McHugh’s Kilcar have sent out a real message of intent with a huge win over St Michael’s in Towney this afternoon.

This game was singled out as being the standout fixture down for decision this weekend, but a stirring second-half performance from Kilcar seen them blow away the challenge of Eddie Harkin’s side.

Goals either side of half-time from Stephen McBrearty and Patrick McBrearty were the crucial scores in this encounter.

There wasn’t much between the sides in the first-half, but Kilcar always looked threatening and created some good chance.

St Michael’s had a great goal chance but were denied thanks to a fabulous save by Eamon McGinley.

McBrearty’s goal was the big score of the half, and Kilcar led by four points at half-time.

In the second-half, it was all one-way traffic, Paddy McBrearty was sensational and he landed some great points, as well as the all important second gaol which killed the game as a contest.

Stephen McBrearty, Ryan McHugh and Mark McHugh also got in on the act in what really was a wonderful performance from Martin McHugh’s men in the second-half.

On this form, Kilcar look in a great position to end their 23-year wait to win a Donegal SFC.

They play Killybegs in a big derby clash next weekend, while St Michael’s know nothing other than a win over St Eunan’s will be good enough if they’re to advance to the last eight of the Donegal SFC.

Without doubt, the result and performance of the weekend goes to Kilcar, who showed all the attributes required to win a Donegal SFC title.

Final score: Kilcar 2-15 St Michael’s 0-07
