Intermediate Championship
Fanad Gaels 1-7 CLG BnaG 1-9
It was never going to be a pretty game but nevertheless Na Galloglaigh did enough to get over the line tonight and advance to the quarter finals after a hard fought win over Fanad on Saturday. Playing against a stiff breeze the boys raced into a 3 point lead and looked comfortable before Fanad started growing into the game.

The boys led from start to finish however and some great free taking from Cathal Mc Gettigan saw them lead at the break by 2, 0-4 to 0-6. The second half started perfectly for Na Galloglaigh as PJ Hagan got on the end of a nice team move to finish to the back of the net. This put the boys in a commanding 5 point lead and they really should have pressed on from here but as expected from a local derby, Fanad hit back.

As the second half approached the midway point a high ball into the 6 yard box was punched to goal by Michael Sweeney to bring Fanad back within 2 points. It made for a tight and cagey finale, as the game had been throughout, but again Na Galloglaigh stood strong to see the game out, and despite trading scores the game finished 1-7 to 1-9 to see Dannys men advance to the quarter final with a game away to Nauls next weekend to spare.

A speedy recovery to Conor McNulty who went off injured in the first half with a suspected hamstring tear.

Team: Caolan Mc Gettigan, Conor McNulty, Barry McNulty, Tj Evesson, Gary Merritt, Paddy Peoples, Jonny Logue, Joey Cullen, Sean Black, Christopher Barrett (0-1), Pauric Curley (0-2), Cathal McGettigan (0-5), David Curley, Darragh Black (0-1), PJ Hagan (1-0). Subs: Gavin Grier for C. McNulty (20m), Kyle Black and Luke Barrett for Logue and S. Black (45m), Cormac Friel, Enda McHugh, Paul Sweeney, Martin Doyle, Kieran Sheridan, Caolan Bolton

Reserve Championship
Fanad Gaels 1-10 CLG BnaG 1-9
Our Reserves were bitterly disappointed to come away from Fanad without at least a point in a close local derby. It was a tense opening period with neither team creating any clear cut scoring opportunities. Fanad eventually scored the first point game of the game but Na Galloglaigh equalised through Martin Doyle.

A Gary Helferty point gave the visitors the lead but Fanad responded with a point from a free. Na Galloglaigh were beginning to get on top in the game and had the majority of possession. This was rewarded with a goal when Paul Fisher finished off a well worked team move and a point from Cormac Friel gave them a 4 point lead.

Fanad got the last score of the half to leave just a goal between the sides at half time, 0-3 to 1-3. Na Galloglaigh started the second half brightly and scored 2 early points through Ciaran McHugh. Another point from Kieran Gorman gave them a 6 point lead but credit to Fanad as they battled back into the game and scored 1-1 to cut the deficit to 2. The remainder of the half was end to end with points traded by both sides. With a just a point between the sides in the closing minutes it made for a nervy finish.

Fanad equalised in the last minute of normal time and it looked like the game was heading for a draw before Aidan McAteer stepped up with a lovely point off the outside of the boot to give Fanad the victory. The result leaves Na Galloglaigh needing to beat St Nauls next Saturday to guarantee progression to the knockout stages.

Team: Sean Gallagher, Patrick Ferry, Paul Grier, Cormac Friel (0-1), Cormac Toland, Enda McHugh, Kieran Sheridan, Paul Sweeney, Kieran Gorman (0-1), Martin Doyle (0-2), Caolan Bolton, Ciaran McHugh (0-2), Gary Helferty (0-2), Paul Fisher (1-1), Emmet Conaghan. Subs: Kieran McLaughlin for Ferry (45m), Matthew Stewart, James McCallum, James McGinley
