Dublin City Triathlon
In one of the largest triathlon events of the year 1000 entrants took part in the Dublin City Triathlon based in Phoenix Park. In the Olympic race Fin Begley comfortably won her category in a time of 2.45.43 . Sonia O Sullivan also raced in the event which demonstrates the growing popularity of the sport. She will have Fin to contend with next year as they will both be in the same age category.

Martin Donnelly finished 57 th overall which was only good enough for 9 th in his category despite Martin completing the course in 2.31.37. He was closely followed home by Donagh O’suliivan in a time of 2.32.37 who was 10 th in this competitive category

Paul McIntyre a long standing member also completed the 70.3 distance course in Austria. A time of 5.36.20 saw him well up in his category.

Another good achievement and good to see him back competing.

Burtonport Arranmore swim

On Saturday twenty six open water swimmers swam from Arranmore Island to Burtonport. Karen Crawford led the way for the club followed home by John Conaghan , Mark Mc Collum , David Harvey and Cathal Roarty. This event in its’ fifth year is well run and definitely one members should be aiming for. The 4 k course is helped by the fact that it is run with the prevailing tide. The event is run by Finbarr Breslin and funds raised were donated to the RNLI and the Alzheimers society.

Five K reports

Danny Mooney won the Milford five k in a time of 16.09 with Niamh Mc Daid and Ben George also running well.

Desiree Casburn also ran well in the Glendoan finishing second woman in a time of 22.52

Other news

The Sunday cycle continues to go from strength to strength and last week a group completed the climb to the Bridle path on the Glendoan Doochary road.. Margaret Kelly on an easy day in preparation for Iron man Wales was available to give advice on climbing techniques.

Everyone in the club is following Jason Black in the cycle race around Ireland. We all wish him well in his endeavors in this race and in his attempt to qualify for the race across America.(Raam)

Open water safety

The club organizes a supervised swim session every Monday evening at six thirty pm for all members. A swim route is set up with a kayak to cover that swim route only.
