Ballybofey United FC have enjoyed a brilliant start to the season – and their form has been compared by some to that of the Minnesota Mighty Ducks when they were lead by Gordon Bombay in the early 90’s.
Barney Lafferty is in charge at the minute, and they’ve already won the Area Cup after a brilliant 4-1 win over Castlefinn Celtic.
However, this weekend their focus turns away from football.
This weekend it’s all about the annual Ballybofey United ‘Duck Race’ fundraiser which takes place tomorrow.
Star player Shaun ‘Wizzy’ McGowan told Donegal Daily, “This event separates the men from the ducks, and it should be a good days ‘quack’.
“There’s 900 ducks in the race, so it’s going to be tough for my duck to win, but I’m just hoping he isn’t ‘flat-footed’ and doesn’t let the occasion get to him.
“In all seriousness though, it’s a great fundraiser for the club and we’re hoping a big crowd turns out to support the fundraiser.
“The winners wins €1,000 and 2nd place gets you €600, while there are other cash prizes, so there could be a few men ‘waddling’ around the town tomorrow night with their winnings.”
The Ballybofey United ‘Duck Race’ gets underway tomorrow at noon (sharp) from Drennan Bridge.
The race is expected to last for fifteen minutes! Good luck to all involved with the fundraiser!
